In our new blog series, Meet Castlight, we’re featuring some of the best hearts and minds that drive our business. In this Q&A, we learn more about Matt Moran, our SVP of Corporate Development.
What is your role? How does it support Castlight’s mission?
As the leader of our Corporate Development organization, I am accountable for new growth, strategy, and partnerships for Castlight. We focus on ways to deliver our mission through new growth channels, which enables Castlight to help more people find care and engage in their overall wellbeing.
Our Health Plans business has been a bright spot for Castlight over the past year. Health plans are turning to Castlight for our coordinated high-tech + high-touch approach, which can help their members navigate to high-value providers and virtual care solutions.
What led to your decision to join the Castlight team?
Working with people who I believe in and trust was foundational when it comes to my decision to join Castlight. The team at Castlight is the best in the business. Their passion for improving the healthcare system and their focus on delivering personalized healthcare experiences for each member drew me to the company.
What’s your mantra in a few words?
Find the bright spots!
What is your go-to quarantine activity?
I enjoy home improvements. Over the summer, I spent time outside rebuilding the back staircase to our house. As the winter has moved in, I am shifting my focus to bathroom projects and crown molding. I enjoy the problem solving, physical nature, and satisfaction of home improvement projects.
What’s the biggest challenge and opportunity for leadership with a remote workforce?
Helping my team members establish a routine and set boundaries.
Working from home can be isolating and can create challenges around shutting work off and engaging with people outside of the virtual office. As a leader, creating an environment that promotes and encourages balance is important to me. I encourage my team members to take more walking meetings, carve out time away from their computers, and be deliberate about wellness time during working hours.
What are you most excited about as the next innovation in digital health?
I’m excited about the acceleration of virtual primary care. Over the past year, the advances we have made in telehealth, for example, have been tremendous.
Castlight already plays such a critical role in virtual primary care by enabling people to more easily navigate and utilize digital care options, but I’m excited for the care model to continue to evolve industry-wide and for people to have the opportunity to engage with their primary care physician (PCP) utilizing text, chat, and video.
Having an ongoing, personalized dialogue with a PCP could truly impact an individual’s health, ultimately breaking down barriers and making it easier to navigate and access care.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I am passionate about education. I believe that providing children with an environment to learn and grow can create empowered students who contribute to their community and thrive in a diverse global society. I volunteer as a board member of Erie Elementary Charter School in Chicago.
